Enough is Enough

I was horrified when I found out that St. Paul, Minnesota school worker ‪#‎PhilandoCastile‬ was shot and killed in front of his partner and child; all I could do was hold my children closer. This came after the news of ‪#‎AltonSterling‬, a father of five, who was killed by Baton Rouge law enforcement.

It is abundantly clear that a militarized police response is deadly to citizens and undermines any potential credibility of law enforcement across the United States. Law enforcement officers have become such a danger that even compliance to their directives can result in death.

In Berkeley, we have clear examples of what happens when the police are militarized and out of control. Because of Urban Shield training and widespread corruption, they are killing people like ‪#‎KaylaMoore‬, abusing people who are standing up for their civil rights and against police brutality, and taking the law into their own hands. We will not stand for this happening in Berkeley. We will not stand for this happening in Oakland or San Francisco. We will not stand for this happening in Minnesota. We will not stand for this happening in Louisiana. We will not stand for this happening anywhere.

Enough is enough.
